Benefits of Using Avocado for the Face

Avocado is a superfood because it has good fats, omega fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants, and a bunch of other nutrients.  They act as a “nutrient booster” by helping increase the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients such as vitamins A, D, K, and E.

You know that eating avocado is good for your overall health, but can using avocado in a face mask help you get glowing skin? Yes.  It moisturizes your skin, fights signs of aging, and acts as a deep cleanser.

The vitamins in avocado help the skin produce new cells and restores natural collagen which fights against fine lines and wrinkles.  The antioxidants in the avocado help minimize the appearance of dark spots. The avocado face mask will penetrate deep into your pores, to get rid of dead cells, oils, and any dirt.  After the treatment, your skin will look fresh and feel fantastic.

Avocado facial masks are suitable for all skin types.  If you add additional ingredients to the avocado face mask, you can reap additional benefits.  Lemon can help fight acne.  Honey, yogurt, and milk will make the make more moisturizing.

Avocado is also a popular ingredient for hair masks.

Preparing for an Avocado Face Mask

You will see better results with your avocado facial mask (or any face masks for that matter) if you prep your skin.  Before starting to apply the avocado mask, it is important to wash your face with a gentle cleanser and pat dry.

You will not use the stone or skin of the avocado in the mask but don’t toss them.  You can rub the inside of the skin gently on your face to use as an exfoliant before you apply the mask.  The stone can be used to give yourself a facial massage with the avocado mask while you are waiting for all the nutrients to be absorbed.

I also recommend that those with long hair put it up and out of the way.  It won’t hurt anything if you get a little bit of the mask in your hair, but it does make for a little more cleanup.

How to Give Yourself an Avocado Facial Treatment

  1. Apply the face mask (choose one of the recipes below) liberally but be careful to avoid the area around your eyes.  Some people like to use their fingers to spread it, but if you want to keep your hands clean, you could also use a brush like this.
  2. Leave the avocado face mask on for 15 minutes or until it dries. While you are waiting you can use the avocado stone to massage your face,  Then wash it off with lukewarm water.
  3. Follow with your favorite moisturizer.

Homemade Avocado Facial Mask Recipes

These recipes are all quick and simple.  All of the ingredients are natural and can easily be found in your pantry.  It’s best to use an avocado that is ripe (but not brown) and soft so that it is easier to spread on your face.

You will need a container to mix everything together.  A bowl and fork will do, but you might find it easier to use a mortar and pestle like this.

Avocado Facial Mask

Let’s start with the simplest DIY face mask.  You only need one ingredient – avocado.  If it’s a large one, you will probably only need half.  Remove the pit then mash the avocado so it will be easier to rub on your face.
